Community TV Field Guide
Connecting Existing Systems to Resident TVs
Plan the source, audience and correction path before connecting community information to the resident screen.

Integration is most useful when it brings reliable information from the system where people already maintain it to the screen where residents want to use it. Before discussing fields or interfaces, identify the source of truth, the intended audience and the person responsible when information is wrong.
Why a hotel channel is an incomplete model for housing
Hotels have long offered branded in-room channels and information. A hotel can standardize its TV fleet and use a hospitality management system: LG describes Pro:Centric as managing content on LG Hotel TVs, and Samsung describes LYNK Cloud working with supported Samsung Hotel TVs. Those are examples of an established approach, not the only historical ways to deliver a hotel channel.
Residential buildings face a different starting point. People already own varied televisions and streaming devices, while common areas and nearby businesses have their own equipment. Exolet brings a similar building-channel experience to compatible existing devices without requiring the building to buy a replacement fleet. The value is extending access beyond a centrally owned set of screens.
The TV ecosystem is fragmented
TV delivery spans multiple platform families rather than one universal app store. Samsung’s Seller Office handles its TV app certification; LG has a separate webOS submission and approval process; Roku has its own publishing and certification requirements. A release on one platform does not establish availability on another.
This fragmentation helps explain why delivering a consistent residential experience is harder than supplying a known hotel installation. It requires platform-specific distribution and testing as well as the content connection. Use Exolet’s official apps and compatibility list to identify supported devices; platform coverage is not a promise that every TV ever made can run the service.
Keep the source of truth intact
Exolet supports integration with existing engagement platforms so communities can keep systems that work for them. Its published PointClickCare integration describes one-way facility and resident census synchronization into Exolet, with PointClickCare remaining the source of record and no writes back to the clinical record.
A connected business sign is a separate workflow: the business’s current menu or schedule serves its own display and the nearby resident network. Do not assume that every third-party system has the same direction, data scope or refresh behavior. Record those details for the specific connection instead of using the word integration as a complete specification.
Separate public content from restricted information
A public yoga schedule and a resident record do not have the same audience. List the information needed for the intended task and the people permitted to see it. OWASP’s authorization guidance recommends least privilege and checking access to resources. Use those principles when reviewing a connection with your technical team.
Never use real private resident or patient data merely to make a public demonstration look realistic. A custom prospect demo can use the building’s splash page with sample data. Keep neighborhood business content public-facing and leave personal information within its appropriate access boundaries.
Test corrections and failures, not just the happy path
Choose a normal update, a correction and an unavailable-source scenario. Agree what should be displayed, who should be contacted and how the team verifies recovery. These are acceptance-test questions to resolve for the deployment, not claims that a specific alert, automatic fallback or logging control exists.
Record platform and model details when testing the resident side. If an item is wrong everywhere, start with the content source. If it is wrong only on one device, capture that device and the observed difference. A clear correction path is more useful than repeatedly re-entering information in several places.
